American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 10 am–6 pm. It is closed on Sunday. My family and I have been loyal customers of Krause's Homemade Candy for many years. We've bought chocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because i

We go to the one in Rhinebeck, NY, much smaller. Krause is one of the best chocolate shops in the Hudson Valley!

They offer dark and milk chocolate covered strawberries, both were delicious. The place is clean and well organized. I visited the day before valentine's so there were a ton of people inside. Despite it all the environment was friendly and they were able produce boxes upon boxes of the strawberries. I highly recommend.

Great staff and very friendly. Big S/O to Chelsea and Jen for their smiles and service. Great selection and big hits with the chocolate covered strawberries. Wille Wonka would be intimidated by the selection. Everything is a golden ticket here.

Best chocolate in the area. I come here every year to shop for Christmas gifts. They have a large variety of candy, chocolates, brittles, fudge.. so many options. They have special occasion chocolates, as well as, lots of gift baskets. We also love the peanut brittle. I've made chocolate-covered peanut brittle with their chocolate bar and brittle. It is absolutely fantastic.
